1. GSM:

The GSM (grams per square meter) of paper measures its thickness and density by indicating how much a square meter of the paper weighs. A higher GSM means thicker, heavier paper. The right GSM depends on the intended use, with heavier GSM being more durable and impactful for higher-quality prints.

2. BULK:

The “bulk” of paper refers to its thickness in relation to its weight. Specifically, it’s the volume of the paper per unit of weight, typically measured in cubic centimeters per gram (cm³/g). Papers with higher bulk are thicker and more voluminous but not necessarily heavier, giving them the right feel and appearance without adding extra weight. Bulk can vary based on factors like the type of pulp used, the manufacturing process, and whether the paper has been coated.

3. BRIGHTNESS:

The brightness of paper is a measure of how much light it reflects, often expressed as a percentage. Higher brightness levels mean the paper reflects more light, making it look whiter and more vibrant. This quality affects readability, color contrast, and visual appeal, which is important for products like notebooks and diaries.

In the paper industry, brightness is usually measured on a scale from 0 to 100, with higher numbers indicating greater brightness. Standard copy paper typically has a brightness level of 80–100, while premium papers for publishing or high-quality print have brightness levels of 90 and above. Brightness can also influence the perception of colors printed on paper; higher brightness can make colors appear more vivid.
